NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA / PLAIN ANSWERS
What should you knowbefore you bring your car in?
Short, plain answers to common repair and collision questions. O’Hara and Sons Automotive is in Northeast Philadelphia at 7350 Wissinoming St, open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. Call (267) 995-0203 to talk about your car.
- 01Do I have to use my insurance company’s repair shop in Pennsylvania? No. A Pennsylvania auto-damage appraisal must include a written statement that there is no requirement to use any specified repair shop.
- 02What does it mean when my check engine light is on or flashing?A flashing check engine light means a serious problem such as an engine misfire: pull over safely and stop driving. A steady light means the system found a fault that needs to be checked soon.
- 03Why are my brakes squealing or grinding?Squealing often comes from vibration or worn brake parts, and sometimes from damp weather. Grinding, a pedal that feels different, or longer stopping means have the brakes inspected right away.
- 04How often should I change my oil?Change oil on the schedule in your owner’s manual, not by a single mileage rule.
- 05How does collision repair work, step by step?Collision repair generally goes from assessing the damage, to repairing or replacing parts, to preparing and painting, and finally to a check and hand-back.
- 06Why is my car’s A/C not blowing cold?First work out whether the air is weak or just warm. Weak airflow and warm air can have different causes.
- 07How do I know if my car needs an alignment?Your car may need an alignment if it pulls to one side, the steering wheel is crooked when you drive straight, or the tires wear unevenly.
- 08What should a small business include in a fleet maintenance checklist?A small fleet checklist covers a vehicle list, service records, a driver defect report, a due-date tracker, and a named person who can authorize repairs.
If a car cannot be driven, our sister company O’Hara & Sons Towing shares our yard and has its own number on its site.
