Auto Paint & Refinishing

Preparation first. A finish worth looking at.

Paint is the part you see first, but preparation determines what sits beneath the shine. O’Hara and Sons Automotive specializes in paint repair alongside auto body and collision work. Whether you are looking at a scratched door, a damaged bumper or a panel that needs refinishing after a collision, the starting point is the condition of the surface and the scope of the damage.

01

Look beyond the scratch

A mark may sit on top of the finish, cut into the clear coat, or expose a deeper layer. Those differences matter. Paint that is peeling, cracked or affected by rust needs a different conversation from a superficial scuff. Describe when you first noticed the problem and whether the area has been repaired before. Photos in ordinary daylight can be useful context, although an in-person look is needed to assess the surface.

02

Color is only part of the job

A painted panel is viewed alongside the rest of the vehicle, in changing light and at different angles. Existing finish condition, color variation and the relationship between adjoining panels can affect the repair plan. Surface preparation and decisions about the area to refinish belong in that discussion. Ask what work is proposed and which surrounding surfaces are included, rather than judging the scope only by the size of a visible mark.

03

Plan the repair around the vehicle

Tell the shop if you are also dealing with loose trim, a dent, corrosion, or damage from an earlier impact. Those issues can affect what should happen before paint. Bring the year, make and model, and point out every area you want considered. If a claim is involved, bring the available claim documents too. Call before bringing the vehicle over so you can discuss inspection and appointment arrangements.

A LITTLE CLARITY

Good questions.Straight answers.

Still wondering about something? Call (267) 995-0203, Mon–Fri, 8 AM–6 PM.

Does every scratch require repainting?

Not necessarily. The depth of the damage and the condition of the surrounding finish affect the options. A description or photo alone cannot confirm whether a mark can be improved without refinishing.

Can you quote paint work from the website?

This website does not generate quotes. Call (267) 995-0203 to describe the affected panels and discuss how to have the vehicle assessed.

What should I ask about aftercare?

Ask for care instructions specific to the work performed, including when washing or other finish treatments are appropriate. Avoid assuming that advice for an older factory finish also applies to a newly refinished area.
